Bio/Description

Alírio Karina's research examines the historical and political transformations and consequences of anthropological thought, and its relationship to sedimenting conceptions of blackness, indigeneity and Africanity. An organizer of the Mimbres School, they have held an NRF Postdoctoral Fellow in the Archive and Public Culture Research Initiative at the University of Cape Town, and taught at the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research. Karina is a co-editor of a forthcoming special issue of "Social Dynamics" examining archival loss and destruction and its consequence for thinking African Studies, and has articles in the journals Diacritics, Third Text, Postmodern Culture and Safundi. Ph.D. University of California-Santa Cruz
